The incident that led me to question the existence of god

When I was seven, I stopped believing in god. Until that time, I would say I was fairly religious, blindly saying prayers each day and even getting a kick out of it. The change occured when I walked into a temple with my shoes on, and the priest scolded me for doing so. Having been spoilt rotten and never disciplined in my life, I didn't understand why the priest would get so upset for such an innocent act and I rationalised then that god was either cruel or despotic to allow that to happen to me. Since that time, I have refused to acknowledge the existence of god, and my views have become more refined.
