Lord of Illusions

Clive Barker does it again. I think this is a must see for all horror and Barker fans. The story explores the world of true magic, where magicians don't perform illusions, and where their tricks have physical consequences. As usual, the forces of good and evil are pitted against each other. The evil guy, Nix (Daniel von Bargen), is the coolest magician of them all. He makes the mistake of kidnapping a little girl, which leads to one of his students, who had defected earlier, binding him and burying him deep underground. This sets the stage up for Nix's eventual return and the apocalyptic final battle. The setting is highly surreal and works well for the theme of the movie, even though the effects get pretty cheesy at times. Some of the effects though are indeed scary and some might manage to gross you out. The acting is okay. It's worth the matinee fare.
