Skunkweed - interviews

Keep America Beautiful

Skunkweed is an odd mix of Ween-like quirkiness, the seemingly erratic rhythms of Jane's Addiction, and the power and crunch of proto-metal groups from the 70s. While the vocals have their good and bad moments, the music is catchy and packs a wallop. The urgency in the songs complement the lyrics, most of which are pro-drug. There's some great rhythm guitar and drum work here, and the best parts are when the group veers from an Alterna-rock sound to one that resembles Heavy Metal. In fact, there're some long extended jams with some cool guitar solos that really rock. There's also some psychedelic influences thrown in, and those do a good job holding the listener's attention. With a bit more sonic experimentation, I think this group could really go places.
