Grither

The First Man on the Sun

Since Nirvana made it in the early 1990s, we've seen a whole slew of clones trying to capitalise on their commercial successes. While Grither is quite different from Nirvana, I find their aggression reminiscent of the late band. The music isn't as catchy, but the lyrics are open, honest, and angst-ridden. This may be good or bad depending on your age and your life experiences. Overall, I'd say that Grither packs a punch that is lacking in most alterna-rock bands, and a few tunes really stand out on this album. The band mixes the emotional aggressiveness seen in bands like Nirvana with the animal intensity of bands like Iggy Pop and the Stooges and the New York Dolls.
